About Dr. Jenny

Born and raised in Houston, Dr. Jenny Seger attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a B.A. in Psychology. She attended the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio, serving as class president and a peer advisor for first-year medical students. While there, she met and married Mickey Seger, a fellow medical student.

Following medical school, the Segers moved to Lubbock, Texas, for residency training at Texas Tech Medical School. During residency, she and her husband started their family and were blessed with three boys. In 2003, the Seger family moved to Houston, where Dr. Jenny worked with an internal medicine physician practicing both inpatient and outpatient medicine.

After both she and Mickey finished their medical training, the Segers moved to San Antonio, where she practiced traditional family medicine for three years before receiving a surprise that changed their family forever … twin girls! After a brief hiatus to devote more time to her family, Dr. Jenny returned to practice at the Bariatric Medical Institute of Texas in 2008. She practiced family medicine and medical weight loss management and has led the Comprehensive Medical-Surgical Weight Management Program for patients who have already undergone bariatric surgery at BMI of Texas since 2009 and she continues to do so today.

Dr. Jenny received her board certification in Obesity Medicine from the American Board of Obesity Medicine in 2011. Dr. Jenny went on to serve on the Boards of both the Obesity Medicine Association as well as the American Board of Obesity Medicine. Prior to serving on the Board, she was an item writer for the ABOM exam and served as a lead Co-Author for the Obesity Medicine Association’s original Obesity Algorithm, published in 2013.

She has since dedicated her career to the prevention and treatment of obesity and metabolic health and has presented at many professional conferences, authored a chapter in Quality in Obesity Treatment, a comprehensive obesity management textbook, and was a Co-Author on the AACE/ACE/ASMBS/TOS/OMA Obesity Guidelines in 2020. She is currently an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Family Medicine, Long School of Medicine at the UT Health Science Center in San Antonio where she offers students and residents the opportunity to learn more about obesity management.

Dr. Jenny currently serves as the Co-Clinical Editor for Bariatric Times. Learn more
